Greece v Czech Republic: Anytime Goalscorer Tip

Pilar: lively against Russia.

Scored in the opener and hit the target four times in all - a tournament high.

As teams start to play for a second time we suddenly gain the benefit of statistical analysis from earlier matches. One surprising observation is that although the Czech Republic lost 4-1 to the Russians, they did enjoy more attempts on target (10) than any other side to date in the competition.

Furthermore, Michal Bilek’s side had more possession than Russia, surely the strongest contender in Group A. If we assume that life will now get a little easier for the Czech Republic then they look a side capable of finding the net.

The one man who did that for them last Friday was Vaclav Pilar. The 23-year-old dispatched his goal neatly at the start of the second half. That was one of four efforts on target from the winger; nobody in the first round of matches has had more, and only Ronaldo matched that total.

Pilar is beginning to look like a goalscoring wide man for club and country and Greece could be his next victim. The good news for us is that the bookies are far more interested in the out-and-out strikers who haven’t looked any more likely to score.

Vaclav Pilar is an excellent value bet at a best price of 13/2 (Sportingbet) in the anytime goalscorer market.

* Stat comparisons exclude last night’s Group D fixtures.
