Germany v Italy Tip

Buffon: Can he keep another clean sheet?

A combination of Italian fatigue and German game-changers could be pivotal in the second half.

Having confidently tipped Germany to win, that is not say that I think it will be easy. After two consecutive 0-0 draws in the tournament, Thursday’s second semi-final looks destined to be another cagey affair.

It’s the clash between the best attack of Euro 2012 (Germany 9 goals scored) against the meanest defence (Italy 2 goals conceded). But just because the Azzurri shut out Ireland and England, does not mean they can resist Joachim Low’s all-stars. Germany have found the net in 20 consecutive outings and with Italy having injury and suspension trouble at the back, I don’t think they’ll hold out for 90 minutes here.

What’s more, I don’t see Italy causing untold havoc down the other end. Since 1996, no other team has progressed to the final four having scored so few goals (4).

With the Italians more likely to suffer from fatigue as the night wears on, and Low bound to have numerous options on the bench, this game could well be settled in the second period. I think half time: draw - full time: Germany rates as a slice of value at best odds of 4/1 with PaddyPower.
