Croatia v Spain: First Goalscorer Tip

Torres: Hunting the Golden Boot.

Spectacularly back on form against Ireland. He will be hungry for more tonight.

Spain moved up several gears against an outclassed Ireland after re-discovering the benefits of playing an out-and-out striker.

Fernando Torres was left on the bench for most of La Roja’s opener against Italy as Vicente del Bosque essentially employed a 4-6-0 formation. There was lots of pretty football but the champions lacked a clinical edge and were held 1-1.

Enter Torres from the start against Ireland and it was a very different story. The Chelsea striker fired home the first inside four minutes as Spain suddenly found their bite. He added his second after half-time in what was a man-of-the-match performance with four shots on target from five attempts. Spain won 4-0.

The 28-year-old is 9/2 (Betfred) to open the scoring against Croatia and, with his confidence back, he merits being strong favourite in that market.
