Dejected Blues Go Through Motions

Everton have lost three of their last four games to miss out on Champions League football. Hull will want to arrive at Wembley on a high.

The final day of the Premier League season has to be viewed as a unique entity when the respective states of mind are probably more important than form and individual quality. Considering this, I think Hull are a good bet to beat Everton at best odds of 3/1 (BetVictor).

The Toffees head to the KC Stadium knowing that a season that promised much has ended on an anti-climactic note. Three defeats in their last four games removed any hopes of Champions League football and Blues fans will be gutted that their final clash now has no significance whatsoever. Arsenal can’t be caught, but at least Spurs can’t creep into fifth position either.

The situation is all rather different for Hull whose most exciting occasion is still to come. Steve Bruce leads his men into FA Cup final action next Saturday and the home crowd will want to send their heroes off on a high.

Sometimes you see sides crumble in the weeks before an FA Cup final and admittedly the Tigers haven’t won since their semi-final trip to Wembley. But their only home outing in the past month was against a resurgent Arsenal so recent form must be taken with a pinch of salt.

Indeed, the comeback from 2-0 down to 2-2 at Fulham a fortnight ago showed that the spirit remains strong. The scorers that day were Jelavic and Long and for those two this will be the final run-out of the season. Both are cup-tied for the showcase event so Steve Bruce will surely have no qualms about sending them out to finish with a bang here.
