Defences Should Dominate At Selhurst

These teams are last and second last in the total goals per game table.

There have been fewer goals in Crystal Palace matches and Hull City fixtures than for any other teams in the Premier League. So it stands to reason that we should expect a low scoring encounter at Selhurst Park on Tuesday.

In the Eagles’ 22 league games, fans have only seen a total of 45 goals; that’s an average of just 2.05 goals per outing. This is largely because Palace have only scored 14 times themselves, which is a divisional low. The good news for the south Londoners is that the defence has improved considerably as four clean sheets in six home games testifies.

22 Hull City matches have seen 50 goals at an average of 2.27 per 90 minutes. Steve Bruce has particularly struggled to find goals beyond the KC Stadium. They have only found the net more than once in one of 11 away ventures.

When you put it all together this looks as likely a fixture as any to produce under 1.5 goals; that’s a best price 9/5 prospect with StanJames.
