Championship Title Tip 2017-18: Fulham

The Cottagers finished last season by taking 37 points from their final 17 games. That's title winning form and they have kept hold of their key men over the summer.

We’ve had a good run tipping the top dogs in the Championship recently. Two years ago we successfully backed Burnley for the title (14/1) and last year we won each-way on Brighton (12/1), only denied the title in the 89th minute of the final match of the regular season!

For 2017-18 we’re siding with Fulham at best odds of 9/1 with Boylesports after they picked up five more points than the next best side in the division from Valentine’s Day onwards. They missed out in the play-offs, but the impact of that disappointment can be overstated. Brighton bounced back just fine last term.

Crucially, the Cottagers have kept hold of key men such as Tom Cairney and 17-year-old sensation Ryan Sessegnon. Boss Slavisa Jokanovic will have learn a lot from his first full season at the club and just needs to keep the form going which saw a run-in record of W11 D4 L2.

Aston Villa look fanciful as Championship favourites and wouldn’t be close to that without their history, which is irrelevant. John Terry may be an interesting signing but at 36 he’s not going to revolutionise a side which lost as many games as it won last season.

Boro will be more realistic challengers but we shouldn’t forget that only 50% of sides relegated from the Premier League even make the top six the following year at the lower level. Besides, I can’t back a side at 7/1 who had just one victory in their final 21 league games in the top flight.

At longer odds than both, Fulham are the standout option for the title.
