Cardiff v Man Utd Tip

The Cardiff stalwart is likely to get a bit more reward for his attacking intent soon so we should back him when the odds are particularly appealing.

At best odds of 6/1 (Bet365) in the anytime goalscorer market, we could do a lot worse than to side with Peter Whittingham this afternoon.

Cardiff City’s attacking midfielder has been a prolific source of goals for the Welsh club down the years having bagged 20 league goals in 2009-10 followed by 11, 12 and 7 in the subsequent Championship campaigns.

Now back in the top flight where he began with Aston Villa, the 29-year-old is still having plenty of efforts and he’s due to add to his solitary league goal of this season some time sooner rather than later. Whittingham has already had 21 attempts on goal at an average of 1.9 shots per game.

By way of comparison, Aaron Ramsey and Oscar average 2.2 shots per game and have found the net six and five times respectively. Yaya Toure also has five league goals and actually averages fewer efforts per match (1.8) than Whittingham.

Perhaps Whittingham has been saving his first home goal of the campaign for the visit of the defending champions, Manchester Utd.
