Austria Underrated

Group D is wide open but the Austrians shouldn't be dismissed lightly for their trip to Serbia.

Austria had a Euro 2016 to forget but the bookies seem to have let that cloud their judgement when pricing up this World Cup qualifying Group D clash.

There doesn’t seem to be any good reason why Marcel Koller’s boys should be anything like as long as 14/5 (Skybet) to win in Serbia on Sunday.

Austria qualified for the Euros off the back of nine consecutive victories and have started this campaign with a win in Georgia and a 2-2 home draw with Wales where they were unlucky to be denied an 11th straight qualifying success.

In contrast, Serbia had a dismal time in their bid to reach Euro 2016, finishing second bottom of a group which didn’t look particularly strong.

They have changed coach but one competitive home win in their last five attempts suggests there is plenty to prove yet before they can justify such firm favouritism against a decent side.
