England v West Indies ODI Series: Lendl Simmons

Assured of game time by opening the batting. Only Chris Gayle betters his runs per match average.

Using the same angle as our England tip, we want to be backing a player guaranteed time at the crease, especially if any of the games are weather affected. Chris Gayle dominates the betting at 11/5 (Bet365) but his opening partner Lendl Simmons could be the surprise package at 13/2 (Skybet).

Having opened the batting in the recent warm-up game against Middlesex, we must assume the selectors are going to use him in the same position during the ODIs.

West Indies ODI & T20 Averages

Looking at his career figures he is comfortably the second best batsman in the West Indies’ line-up. Averaging 28.2 runs per match across both ODIs and T20 internationals, he is 5.6 runs clear of his nearest challenger.

In a short series it only needs one good innings to win this market and at 13/2 (Skybet) Lendl Simmons is overpriced to be the leading batsman for the West Indies.
