England v West Indies: Latest Betting

The group stages of the Cricket World Cup are meant to be painstakingly predictable. They are, unless England are playing.

So what next for the England World Cup cricket team? It takes a brave punter to touch a game involving Andrew Strauss’s side after the results they’ve conjured up so far in this competition. A scraped win against Holland was swiftly followed by a compelling tie with hosts, and tournament favourites India. They then hurtled back to earth with a shock defeat to Ireland before bouncing back again with a tremendous victory over tournament second favourites South Africa. Having restored the nation’s belief that they really are a decent limited over side, they then promptly lost to Bangladesh!  The bookies can’t be the only ones left bemused about what happens next, against the West Indies, on Thursday morning.

England are a best price of 8/11 with Sportingbet to win their final group game, which they must do to stay in the tournament. This makes them marginal favourites over West Indies, at 13/10, who have already qualifed. The general consensus is that if England win, they will join their opponents in the last eight - again an 8/11 shot, this time with BlueSquare. Bangladesh are evens with the same firm to claim that final quarter final berth, and they are the ones with matters still in their own hands. If they cause another major upset by beating South Africa on Saturday, a 4/1 shot, it won’t matter what England have done on the Thursday. They will be going home. What actually will happen, is anyone’s guess.
