Cricket World Cup Betting: The Importance of KP

England's odds for the Cricket World Cup have drifted on news that Stuart Broad has been ruled out of the tournament.

The value of Kevin Pietersen to the England team was brought into sharp focus this week. The conclusion won’t be the massage to his ego he might have hoped for.

On Monday it was revealed that Pietersen could no longer play with his hernia problem and was out of the World Cup. The bookmakers saw no need to change England’s odds as his replacement, Eoin Morgan, has been a revelation in the ODI arena, averaging almost 40 with the bat.

Things went from bad to worse for KP (and England) on Wednesday as Stuart Broad was ruled out of the tournament with a side strain. The bookmakers considered this a bigger blow to England’s chances and have pushed them out to 10/1 (from 8/1).

Perhaps Kevin Pietersen is no longer the key player in the England team he thought he was? That is certainly what the bookmakers think.
