Cricket World Cup Betting: England Back From The Brink

At one stage England were 33/1 to win the Cricket World Cup, but another thrilling victory keeps them in the tournament.

It was another thrilling victory for England that keeps their World Cup hopes alive. Something fans are getting uncomfortably familiar with.

On a turning pitch England were all out for 243, a score that looked defendable considering Andrew Strauss had picked two spinners; James Tredwell was making his bow in the tournament.

Needing to beat the West Indies to have any hope of progressing, England were staring down the barrel as the Windies cruised to 222-6. For the sixth match in a row there was an amazing twist, with the last four wickets falling for just three runs. Tredwell was the main protagonist taking 4-48 and the man of the match award. He was ably assisted by Graeme Swann who took 3-36.

The win means England are through to the quarter-finals unless Bangladesh beat South Africa and the West Indies get at least a point against India. The bookmakers are confident England will reach the knockout stages and have been cut to 10/1 to win the World Cup. Having reached a high of 33/1 in running against the West Indies, they must be delighted to still be in the tournament.
